FAQs

I want a low maintenance roof—is it possible?

A good shingle roof protector will inhibit the growth of fungus, mildew, and algae, which can leave permanent stains on your shingles.  However, keeping your roof free of debris will extend the lifetime of your shingle roof even further.

Can my new shingle roof be laid on top of my old roof?

In some cases, no tear off of the old shingles is needed before installation of a new roof, but your area's building codes may restrict this practice, and removal of your old roof will offer many benefits such as the ability to install waterproofing material.

How can I assure my new roof is an energy saver for me?

Consider a lighter shingle color. One of the easiest ways to increase energy efficiency is to go with lighter roof colors that reflect heat rather than darker colors which absorb heat.

How do I know when my roof needs repair?

Any of the following indicate your roof is in need of some type of repair:

  • Algae Growth
  • Ceiling spots that appear to be water damage
  • Curling or Buckling
  • Missing, Loose or Balding Shingles
  • Rotting Spots
  • Damaged Flashing

If your shingle roof is more than 12 or 15 years old, it most likely needs replacing.

How long will my new roof last?

A properly laid and well cared for shingle roof can last up to 15 years without repair or replacement.  The application of a good shingle coating will certainly improve the life your shingle roof as well as increase energy efficiency for you.
What are some tips for caring for my shingle roof?

Keeping your roof clean is the most important tip we can give you.  Built-up debris and plant matter will cause moisture to gather allowing mold and mildew to grow leaving green stains or black streaks.   These stains and streaks are unsightly and will damage your roof.  Spraying 1 part bleach to 3 parts water on stains will kill mold and mildew, and adding tri-sodium phosphate will allow you to clean the roof at the same time. Thoroughly rinse your roof when finished to prevent drying and cracking.
Can I power wash my shingle roof?

Yes, but only on the very lightest setting.  Power washing will easily damage and loosen shingles if you are not cautious.
How long does a typical roofing job last?

This is dependant upon your roof.  A simple roof job can be completed in a day or two.  More complicated jobs, such as larger structures with gables, steeper slopes, and other architectural  can take up to a week or more.  Inclement weather conditions can cause delays too.

We offer a wide range of roofing services, including:

  • Roof Inspections
  • New and Replacement Roofs
